Unique Graphing Calculator Activities for Students and Teachers
Do you know that geometric and non-geometric designs can be created on a TI-8X, TI-89, TI-89 Titanium and Voyage 200 graphing calculator using equations of mathematical functions?
Introduction
Teaching in the new millennium challenges teachers at all grade levels to engage students in the meaningful learning and deeper understanding. The fast growing graphing calculator technology with the innovative Mathematics with Creative Designs, a Graphing Calculator Activities Workbook, is a great help in all mathematics classes to meet these challenges. The Workbook provides teachers a unique tool to teach mathematical concepts by creating designs on a graphing calculator using equations of mathematical functions. The creative design technique helps students to enhance visual thinking. It helps students to understand and to apply Algebra and Geometry concepts in a creative and enjoyable way. The visual illustrations inspire and motivate students in the learning process. The Workbook encourages students to quickly see and study graphs of functions encountered in Pre-algebra through Calculus courses.
You may like to display the designs created on a graphing calculator in your classroom, encouraging students to reproduce the designs by discovering the equations of the functions involved in the design.

Book Mathematics with Creative Designs
Helping students to understand mathematical concepts by creating designs on a graphing calculator
The Workbook develops a strong understanding of mathematical functions and relations with their graphs, which is one of the most important skill students need in Algebra-I through Calculus courses. The fast growing graphing calculator technology with the innovative designing technique is a great help in developing the skill.
The workbook is to engage students in learning the algebraic and trigonometric concepts in greater depth and meaning. Make connections between algebra and geometry. It helps students visualize concepts and predict results.
In addition to the strong mathematical understanding, the students and the teachers will be benefited with the followings:
-
Teachers can create their own classroom posters and borders; demonstrating various mathematical concepts.
-
A custom made T-shirt inspire and motivate other students in the learning process.
-
A Mathematical Art gallery to exhibit the students’ creative work, with its mathematical descriptions, can be organized.
The workbook has over 140 pages, which include all the designs created on the TI-8X series (including TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition), TI-89 Titanium, and the Voyage 200 graphing calculators. The book also has many project activities for the students to complete. It also has couple programs to write on your calculator.

Designs created on TI-nspire, TI-84,and TI-83 Plus
Helping students to understand mathematical concepts by creating designs on a graphing calculator
Designs on TI - 84, TI - 83 Plus Silver Edition, and TI - 83 Plus
The following designs can individually be created and displayed in mathematics classrooms on 8" by 11" Poster Card. This will reinforce concepts and invite students to get involved in the learning process. The students will try to reproduce the design to start; which encourage them to create their own designs using their own equations.
Students engage in active learning as the geometric shapes emerge. When given the equation of a function or a relation in mathematics courses, students learn how to find important properties and how to interpret and illustrate these properties with graphs such as restricted domain and rage.
Teachers will be able to help the students in providing the solution for each design, which can be owned separately. Project based activities can be created by the teacher as demanded by the course curriculum.
Once the designing technique is learned, the students will go beyond their classroom activities and create their own designs, to be able to claim their ownership. The beauty of the designing technique is that students cannot create a design unless they know the mathematics behind it.
The individual designs, with complete instructions can be purchased at a reasonable price of $1.35. Scroll through the designs below, select the one you like to create on your calculator, click the link to buy; it will take you to the payment process. Once the payment is confirmed you will receive the selected design poster as a pdf document by email , which can be printed.

TI-89 Titanium & Voyage 200
Mathematical Designs on TI-89, TI-89 Titanium, and Voyage 200
The Poster Cards, displayed in the classroom, will encourage Calculus Students to relate graphs of functions and relations with its equations. The students understand a question better if they are able to produce its graphical representation . Reproduction of the three dimensional design will help students to understand the Spatial Geometry. Teachers will be able to help the students in providing the solution for each design, which can be owned separately. Project based activities can be created by the teacher as demanded by the course curriculum.

Visual Math with Geometer Sketchpad
We believe that students should be prepared for their life and not just for a success in any particular test or examination. Students can gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts of all grade levels if it is presented visually, all the while staying focused and motivated.
When we learn visually, we retain that information stronger and its application is easier than learning traditionally. More importantly, the concepts can be learned at any age because they are made intuitive. Dynamic videos help to apply math concepts at the most basic levels as well as more complex concepts seen in high school in a simple and natural way.
The following two videos will demonstrate the power of visual learning. The first video presents that the sum of the exterior angles of a polygon is 360 degrees and the second illustrates the dynamic approach of finding the slope of a tangent line to a curve at a given point.
